(2,092 feet, 40-percent full). Jim Goughnour of Rim Country Custom Rods with an Nov. 8 report:

Good morning Rim Country anglers,

Bass fishing on Roosevelt Lake this time of year requires some experimentation. Bass are active all over the lake and can be found in very shallow to very deep water depths. Anglers are reporting good numbers of bass using a drop-shot technique, however most are in the 1-2 pound range. Larger sized bass are close to bait balls of shad. Reaction baits such as crankbaits, chatter baits, top-water baits and spoons were catching bass in depths from 2 down to 40 feet. If you're fishing this week and one technique is not catching fish, move to a new area where is different technique is applicable.

The water in the lake is mostly clear with some stained water where the Salt River, Tonto Creek and other small streams flow into the lake. Western impound lakes such as the Salt River Chain of lakes are known for crystal clear water especially when the weather is stable. The fresh water flows into Roosevelt Lake are back to normal rates and the water level remained constant at 40 percent full this week.

Crappie fishing improved this past week and was called fair to good. The weather is predicted to remain calm this coming week so the crappie bite should continue. According to our local crappie experts, the full moon that just past may be a factor in better crappie fishing. Crappie schools can be found in 25-30 feet water close to structure or cover. The 2-inch curly tail grub in a yellow & green color called a John Deere, on a 1/16 or 1/8 ounce small jig-head hook were reported successful on most days last week.
