The Crooked remains a solid late-summer with cool tailwater conditions keeping things active. Fish are spread through the riffles and transition water, with softer seams and deeper buckets becoming increasingly important as the day progresses. ODFW's latest report continues to show strong trout numbers throughout the tailwater, and anglers should keep an eye on flows as irrigation demand begins to shift heading toward fall.
PMDs remain part of the daytime mix, with caddis becoming more noticeable toward evening and midges providing consistent activity throughout the day. Tricos are also becoming more relevant in the late-summer hatch mix, creating another opportunity to find fish looking up during calm mornings.
Subsurface fishing remains the most consistent approach with scuds, Zebra Midges, smaller mayfly nymphs, and Perdigons producing through the faster runs and deeper seams. With fish feeding on plenty of small naturals, keeping flies relatively simple and getting the depth right continues to be the better approach.
