Lake Powell is an angling powerhouse with striper, bass, walleye, catfish, perch, and crappie across 1.9 million acres of desert-canyon reservoir.
Striped bass rule—fighters from 5 to 30 pounds are hooked using shad, cut bait, swimbaits, or trolling crankbaits near drop-offs in spring and fall.
Bass action is abundant: largemouth in coves, smallmouth in rocky canyon walls. Both respond to plastics, jerkbaits, and topwater lures.
Walleye occupy deep arms and channels. Rig a worm harness or crankbait off a downrigger—early morning and twilight are best.
Catfish, perch, and crappie also populate shoreline habitats in summer. All are easily caught with cut bait or minnows.
With marinas, boat ramps, houseboats, and campgrounds, Lake Powell supports anglers of all styles. Pay attention to seasonal water fluctuations and cliffs help shape habitats.
For variety, trophy fish, and breathtaking scenery, Lake Powell stands as one of the West’s best warmwater fisheries.
