The Black River is a top-tier stream fishery in Arizona’s White Mountains, flowing southeast of Alpine through remote forest. Spin fishing is also productive, with small spinners and jerkbaits. The lower Black River transitions into a warmwater fishery with smallmouth bass, sunfish, and catfish, ideal for those targeting multiple species.

Access varies from easy to rugged, and 4WD is recommended in many areas. Several campgrounds and dispersed camping options exist. The Black River offers a wilderness angling experience combining quality fish with stunning scenery and solitude.
