Fishing at Donner Lake remains fair, with heavy summer boat traffic making the shore bite a bit more challenging. Rainbow trout are still being caught around the west end using PowerBait, worms, and spinners, with slip sinker rigs offering the best success from shore. Boat anglers are finding trout suspended at varying depths, while Mackinaw have pushed deeper with the warmer water and are holding around 100–130 feet. Kokanee are generally schooling between 60–80 feet. Early mornings continue to offer the best fishing, especially from about 5:30–10:00 a.m., when cooler temperatures have fish more active and recreational boat traffic is at its lightest.
