We have our local angler, Mike Merritt, with a nice mixed bag of fish! He was targeting stripers using anchovies and ended up landing some beautiful catfish as well.

We do have channel catfish in the river, and it's always nice to see a few being caught. There are plenty of folks who enjoy these fish for the table.

While we're on the subject of catfish, have you ever wondered if Bullhead City was named after a cow or a fish? The story goes back to the days before Davis Dam. If you wanted fresh fish for dinner, you'd head to a certain rock and cast a line. That rock was named after the fish—a bullhead catfish. It sure doesn't look like a cow to me!

As for the fishing, stripers are biting well in the river. Anchovies and swimbaits continue to produce some great catches. Water levels are on the low side right now, making shore fishing an excellent option.

Up on Lake Mohave, trolling has been the most productive technique. Swimbaits and a variety of jigs are also producing some quality fish.
