Colorado River - Laughlin - Laughlin, AZ

The Colorado River below Davis Dam continues to be an excellent fishery. Both visiting and local anglers are having great success fishing from shore and from boats. In this area, anglers on the bank and those on the water are both doing very well.

Local angler Ron Barnett was fishing from shore near the Parkway Bridge when he landed an impressive trophy striper. The fish weighed 30.62 pounds and measured 40 inches long. Ron caught the fish using a homemade swimbait he has been developing, and it’s clearly producing results.

The Nature Center is another great spot to try, with anglers catching a variety of species in that area. Depending on what you’re targeting, there are smallmouth bass, a few rainbow trout, and, of course, striped bass — commonly called stripers.

Remember, the bag limit for stripers is 10 fish. They are regulated differently than largemouth and smallmouth bass, which have a limit of 6 fish with a minimum size of 13 inches. Bass also cannot be taken by spear or bowfishing.

We are seeing an excellent run of smaller stripers right now, and anchovies are producing well. Up on Lake Mohave, the striper bite remains strong, with anglers catching fish in the 2-to-6-pound range.

This time of year, the bigger fish are starting to show up, so make sure your drag is set right, your knots are solid, and get ready to land a fish worthy of a great story. It’s always good to see healthy numbers of smaller fish in the limits — it helps the larger fish continue to grow.

Hope this helps for now, and thanks for the support.

Now go catch a fish!
