Fish Spot Details

Fish Species: Rainbow Trout, Smallmouth Bass, Wiper, Yellow Perch
Echo Reservoir near Echo, Utah, is a versatile warmwater and trout fishery located within easy driving distance of Salt Lake City. At around 1,400 acres, this popular reservoir supports rainbow trout, smallmouth bass, wipers, and yellow perch.

Rainbow trout fishing peaks in spring and fall, with anglers trolling spoons, using PowerBait, or casting spinners from shore. Smallmouth bass dominate in summer, holding near rocky points and submerged structure—soft plastics, crankbaits, and drop-shot rigs are effective.

Wipers add an exciting element, particularly when they school up and chase baitfish. Swimbaits, jerkbaits, and topwater lures offer the best chance of hooking these fast, aggressive fish. Yellow perch are readily caught using small jigs or worms along the bottom, making them ideal for beginner anglers or family outings.

Echo State Park offers full facilities, including boat launches, campgrounds, and restrooms. Water levels can vary significantly due to irrigation use, so anglers should check conditions in advance.

Ice fishing is possible in some winters, but access and ice quality can be inconsistent. Anglers should always consult the Utah Fishing Guidebook for seasonal rules and species-specific regulations.

With strong multi-species action and good infrastructure, Echo Reservoir is one of northern Utah’s most dependable and convenient year-round fisheries.
