Yuba Reservoir - Gunnison, Utah

Fish Spot Details

Fish Species: Channel Catfish, Rainbow Trout, Common Carp, Wiper, Tiger Trout, Northern Pike, Walleye, Yellow Perch, Tiger Muskellunge
Yuba Reservoir, stretching west of Gunnison, Utah, is one of the state’s largest and most diverse warmwater fisheries. Spanning over 22 miles, it offers prime angling for walleye, northern pike, wiper, and yellow perch. Access is excellent via multiple boat ramps and Yuba State Park’s day-use and camping facilities.

Walleye fishing peaks in spring and early summer when anglers troll crankbaits or bounce jigs near rocky points. Wipers—fast-growing hybrids—are a highlight during summer months, often striking topwater lures during baitfish busts. Northern pike draw trophy hunters, especially in spring and fall, using large spinnerbaits and soft plastics in shallow weedy areas.

Yellow perch provide consistent action for families, with simple techniques like jigging or worm fishing along the bottom. Ice fishing is possible in colder winters for perch and walleye, though conditions vary annually.

Water levels fluctuate, affecting access and habitat. Anglers should monitor conditions and consult the Utah Fishing Guidebook for regulations—especially for species-specific rules involving wiper and pike harvest.

With excellent facilities, diverse species, and both powerboat and kayak potential, Yuba Reservoir is one of central Utah’s premier destinations for warmwater fishing and year-round recreation.
