Spanning over 150 miles along the Columbia River, Lake Roosevelt is one of Washington’s most productive and scenic reservoirs. Created by the Grand Coulee Dam, this massive fishery offers exceptional multi-species action, with rainbow trout, kokanee salmon, walleye, smallmouth bass, and burbot all available in good numbers.

Rainbow trout are the backbone of the fishery, thanks to consistent stocking by WDFW. Trolling spinners, Kekeda flies, or Apex lures produces steady bites year-round. Kokanee salmon have become a local favorite, especially during summer months when trolling deep with downriggers and small flashers can lead to quick limits.

Walleye are most active in spring and fall, with anglers targeting them along shelves and flats using crankbaits or crawler harnesses. Smallmouth bass patrol rocky banks and submerged structure, providing a strong warm-season bite for light tackle anglers. In winter, burbot fishing heats up in deeper areas of the lake.

Access is excellent, with numerous launches and campgrounds stretching from the Canadian border to the dam. The fishery is co-managed by tribal and state authorities, so it’s important to understand which permits are required based on location.

Whether you prefer trolling, jigging, or casting from shore, Lake Roosevelt delivers excellent year-round fishing backed by sweeping vistas and minimal crowds.
