Castaic Lake rose slightly to 82 percent of storage capacity, and water temperatures were in the mid-fifties but climbed quickly with the warm weather. Finesse baits were the best way to entice largemouth and smallmouth bass, with drop shot rigs, Carolina rigs, and Ned rigs all producing fish in brown, baitfish, and green patterns, and the 15- to 30-foot zone was the best place to start. Striped bass remained tight lipped, though a few were taken on spoons, deep diving pro blue jerkbaits, and umbrella rigs. Catfish were available for anglers Carolina rigging cut baits, dip bait, and chicken liver. The oversized rainbow trout continued to provide steady action throughout the lake, and trolling small white jerkbaits in Elizabeth was effective, along with a variety of other lures typically used for bass.
