Stocking: Another 1,500 pounds of Rainbow Trout was stocked last week. DFW did a trout plant this week. So far, 7,000 pounds of Rainbow Trout have been stocked this season. We will continue to stock Rainbow Trout through April.
What’s the Catch? The first trolled trout of the season were landed this week on gold spinners. Bass action continues to improve on shiners, highlighted by an impressive 8.9-pound bass (featured below) caught on a Rainbow Trout swimbait.
Anglers are reporting limits of trout near the mouth of Quail Creek in Hermit Cove using PowerBait. Chartreuse, rainbow, and yellow have all been recommended by our rangers as top colors.
The catfish bite has also picked up, with limits caught last weekend on shrimp and nightcrawlers. Rangers expect the catfish action to remain strong for New Moon Fishing next weekend, when the lake will be open until 10 PM.
If you can’t make it out early for the trout bite, try casting near the tules for Redear or Bluegill throughout the day.
Don’t forget to share your catch! Tag us on social media with #LakeJennings for a chance to be featured in our next report.
Conditions: The current water temperature is 69 degrees. With the solstice, the days are getting longer! The sun is rising at 6:50 a.m. and setting at 4:53 p.m. The new moon is January 18th, but we’ll be open for night fishing on January 17th.
