Well our striper bite is picking up we have our local angler Gene Tafoya (gray shirt) with a 16 inch striper a 1.38 pounds and a small mouth bass. He was fishing from shore using anchovies near the Davis dam. the small mouth weighed in at 2.62 pounds and was 17 and 1/4 inches. In the casino area James Hansen (white shirt) was able to land a nice 3.14 pound striper at 21 and 1/8 inches using anchovies from shore. He was fishing on the Arizona side across from the casinos.the striper are starting to come up to our area and are running in the 2 to 5 pound range. there are some larger ones out there so make sure your drag is set and working. I am getting word that various lures are producing some of the larger fish.
Lets not forget about our trout we have JD Bloomfield and fishing buddy Frank Burke both with a limit of rainbow trout they landed using power bait and their favorite spinner. this is a great technique to practice while fishing when your bait slows switch to a lure. this has been our last trout stocking for the season. the Trout will stay a bit in the stocking site and they tend to move out up and down the river. this being said you will need to try a few different spots. the willow beach hatchery is scheduled to restart raising trout in June to be ready for next season. If all goes well I will be able to keep us updated. we all have high hopes and the staff at the willow beach hatchery are sure to give us some great rainbow trout to show off. these also help with the caddis fly (look like little moths) issue. Weather your fishing for trout or our infamous striper it is starting to show signs of a great fishing season.
Thanks for all of your support hope to see you in with that catch large or small.
